Criminal case on torture by policemen sent for review
Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan overturned a decision of Osh Regional Court, acquitting four former police officers of Kyzyl-Kia city, Batken region, suspected of torture. Aziza Abdirasulova, head of Kylym Shamy human rights center told 24.kg news agency.
According to her, the case was sent for review to Osh Regional Court. New composition of board of judges will review it.
A murder was committed in Kyzyl-Kia in 2013, police detained a suspect and began to beat confession out of him. They are charged with seven episodes of crime, including torture, abuse of power and extortion of a bribe. Four defendants were taken into custody in the courtroom.
Osh City Court sentenced former employees of Batken City Department of Internal Affairs in October 2018 to 12, 13 and 14 years in prison. The defendants claimed innocence. However, a forensic examination and testimony of witnesses confirmed their guilt. In total, six people were involved in the case. However, the Osh Regional Court acquitted them all.
