Kyrgyz deputies change opinion on ak-kalpak status
Deputies of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan changed their opinion regarding the status of ak-kalpak. Only 9 people did not support the bill in the first reading.
During the discussion, many deputies spoke out against the bill. They believe that it will not work, as it is a recommendation.
However, during voting, 87 deputies supported the initiative on granting the national headdress ak-kalpak the status of a cultural symbol, nine of them voted against it.
MP Ekmat Baibakpaev proposes to introduce a fine of 1,000 soms for individuals and 5,000 soms — for legal entities for inappropriate treatment of ak-kalpak.
