President asks not to delay adoption of amendments to electoral legislation
President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov met with the Speaker of the Parliament Dastanbek Dzhumabekov and leaders of parliamentary factions. The Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration reported.
The president noted that a decision had been made to declare 2019 the Year of Regional Development and Digitalization of the Country, the National Development Strategy of Kyrgyzstan for 2018–2040, the Strategy for Improving Election Legislation for 2018–2020 were approved, and urged the Parliament to actively engage in implementation of their directions.
He recalled that four bills on amendments to electoral legislation had been submitted to Parliament, which must be passed in the near future. «The election legislation should be stabilized a year before the elections so that everyone can thoroughly study it in advance and participate in the elections with firm confidence in its permanence,» Sooronbai Jeenbekov stressed.
In addition, the head of state noted the need to promptly consider proposals developed in the course of monitoring of new codes and other laws that came into force on January 1, 2019 and developed as part of judicial reform.
