Moscow Mayor announces launch of e-passports for migrants from 2025
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced plans to introduce electronic passports for foreign citizens from next year. TASS reported.
As part of the experiment, which will be launched on the basis of federal law, migrants will be able to receive electronic documents proving their identity, which will simplify the process of checking up-to-date information about them.
According to the mayor, the new electronic ID will contain data on the date of entry into Russia, place of work, registration, as well as biometric information. This will allow the police to conduct checks using a special reading device.
In addition, from 2025, biometric control will be introduced for all foreign citizens at the Moscow Aviation Hub, which unites the capital’s Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports. This innovation will affect even those, who do not need a visa to enter the Russian Federation. Sergei Sobyanin emphasized that the presence of a biometric database will increase the level of crime solving.
There are about 400,000 citizens of Kyrgyzstan in Russia.
