Over $10 million planned to be invested in waste recycling plant in Osh city

The first plant for recycling and disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW) has been built in Osh city.

The founder of the Russian-Kyrgyz joint venture Taza Complex, Marat Zhaanbaev, told how, with the support of the government and the Public-Private Partnership Center (PPP), the company launched the project at the end of May 2024.

According to him, the plant entered into an agreement with the City Hall of the southern capital for 25 years. Half of the investment comes from external sources, including cooperation with the Eurasian Development Bank, which is ready to provide a grant for the development of a feasibility study.

The main goal of the project is not only waste recycling in Osh, but also the creation of similar stations in all regions of Kyrgyzstan. The total investment at the first stage amounted to 98 million soms, and it is planned to invest more than $10 million in the coming years.

Marat Zhaanbaev noted that it is planned to install equipment for the disposal of hazardous and medical waste at the plant, which will allow to switch to deep processing and improve the environmental situation. Sorting technologies are provided by the Russian company Husman, and the equipment comes from the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.

The enterprise has already sorted 152 tons of waste, an average of 2 tons per day, 1.5 tons of which are plastic bottles. In the summer, the plant employed 20 women from socially vulnerable groups. Their salary is about 35,000 soms, three meals a day, showers and toilets are provided. Previously, these women worked at the landfill in difficult conditions, Marat Zhaanbaev told.
