Number of migrants returning to Kyrgyzstan is growing — Labor Ministry
The number of returning migrants continues to grow, the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan reported.
The ministry and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) held a conference and presented the results of an assessment of migration trends.
According to Deputy Minister of Labor Bakyt Darmankul uulu, the number of Kyrgyzstanis returning to their homeland continues to grow. An increase in return migration has been observed since 2020, which indicates a significant change in the migration structure.
The official added that the number of returning migrants increased by 85 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year. Osh, Chui and Batken regions lead in the number of returning migrants.
Migration data is necessary to understand the complex dynamics of population movement and its impact on society and the economy.
The conference was organized within the framework of the IOM projects «Labor Migration Programme in Central Asia» and «Regional Data for Migration Analysis and Policy».
