Site for NPP construction in Kyrgyzstan should be chosen carefully - expert
Kyrgyzstan has confirmed that it will build a low-capacity nuclear power plant jointly with Russia. Boris Martsinkevich, editor of the analytical channel Geoenergetika INFO, said on the air of the program «Energy with BLM» on Sputniklive.
According to him, a joint group of power industry specialists is looking for a suitable place. Recall, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev also reported at a meeting of Eldik deputy group on October 4 that the authorities of Kyrgyzstan were looking for a site for the construction of a nuclear power plant.
«The main commandment of nuclear power is safety, so the choice of a site in a country, where 90 percent are the mountains, must be approached especially carefully. Kyrgyzstan has an energy deficit — the Energy Ministry predicts that about 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours will have to be imported next year. The republic expects to be able to get electricity from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Rosatom is building two wind power plants with a capacity of 100 megawatts in the Kyrgyz Republic, construction of small HPPs is underway,» Boris Martsinkevich said.
