11 percent of population suffer from mental disorders in Kyrgyzstan - WHO
At least 11 percent of the population in Kyrgyzstan suffer from mental disorders. The World Health Organization’s office in the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
It is noted that almost one third of adolescents in the country are bullied. This affects their physical and mental health and leads to low engagement in learning, anxiety, post-traumatic stress and lack of self-esteem.
At a roundtable discussion on World Mental Health Day, participants discussed the growing need for mental health support in the workplace.
According to WHO, 15 percent of people of working age suffered from a mental health disorder in 2019. Globally, depression and anxiety cause about 12 billion lost work days per year that cost the economy about $1 trillion in lost productivity.
The WHO Representative in Kyrgyzstan, Liviu Vedrasco, believes that investment in mental health services is necessary to build a society, in which everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential both in and outside the workplace.
