Reconstruction of Kambar-Ata HPP-2 to begin by the end of year — Energy Minister
Reconstruction of Kambar-Ata HPP-2 will begin by the end of 2024. Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev announced at a meeting of Eldik parliamentary group.
According to him, the bids will be opened on November 25.
«We plan to sign a contract this year and reconstruct the second hydroelectric unit of Kambar-Ata-2. The Eurasian Development Bank allocated $110 million for this. We divided them into three lots. 15 companies applied for them,» Taalaibek Ibraev said.
At the meeting, the minister reported on the situation in the energy sector and the implementation of the Presidential Decree «On the emergency situation in the energy sector of the Kyrgyz Republic.»
Recall, the agreement on the provision of an investment loan of $110 million from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development, funds of which are managed by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), to finance the project «Commissioning of the second hydroelectric unit of the Kambarata HPP-2» came into force back in 2019.
According to Deputy Minister of Energy Taalaibek Baigaziev, the estimated cost of the project on reconstruction of the unit at Kambarata HPP-2 is 1.5 billion soms.
The station was put into operation in 2010. Its capacity is 120 megawatts, but in fact only 90 are generated. The rest, in fact, are «locked» due to the peculiarities of the station’s operation. Officials want to reconstruct the station with the participation of the private company MBT Stroy.
