Kyrgyzstan intends to increase electricity production by 10 percent in two years
Electricity production is expected to increase by 2.5 percent (from 13.8 billion kilowatt-hours in 2023 to 14.2 billion kilowatt-hours) in 2024. The head of the Macroeconomic Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy Almaz Abdekirov told.
In 2025, production is projected to grow by 7.5 percent (from 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion kilowatt-hours). This will be achieved through the modernization of existing energy facilities, including the planned commissioning of large and small hydropower plants with an additional capacity of at least 50 megawatts in 2024 and 62 megawatts in 2025-2026.
It is planned to commission solar and wind power plants with a total additional capacity of 6,450 megawatts in 2024-2026.
Kyrgyzstan has a deficit of electricity. In 2023, it was estimated at 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours. This year the country plans to import from 3.2 to 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours. Electricity will be supplied from September to December from Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
