Russia intends to build a laboratory in Kyrgyzstan to combat dangerous infections. Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko announced during a video conference.
According to him, money has been already budgeted in Russia for this purpose.
«The construction of the biolaboratory partially depends on Kyrgyzstan as well, for example, it is necessary to allocate a place. The laboratory should not be located near residential areas. I can’t say when it will be built, but before construction, it is necessary to train personnel (virologists, microbiologists) and equip the facility,» he said.
Recall, Bishkek hosted interdepartmental Russian-Kyrgyz consultations on biological security in June.
The construction of the laboratory is planned within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on biological security signed by the governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation during the visit of President Vladimir Putin in October 2023.
