Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation to reconstruct Burana Tower
The Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation will reconstruct Burana Tower in Kyrgyzstan. Agreements were reached at a meeting of the Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan Altynbek Maksutov with the President of the Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova in Uzbekistan.
As the ministry’s press service notes, the parties discussed reconstruction and museological work at the Alykul Osmonov House-Museum in Bishkek, as well as the reconstruction of Burana Tower, which will be included in the foundation’s work plan in 2025.
Participants of the meeting also talked about organizing an exhibition dedicated to the work of Mahmud Kashgari as part of the summit of the heads of countries of the Organization of Turkic States and the first international festival Ruh Sanat, which is scheduled for September 2024.
Burana Tower (Buraninsky Minaret) is the cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.
The attraction is located among the ruins of an ancient settlement, a ten-minute drive from Tokmak city, on the left bank of the small Chu river. The building was constructed in the 10th-11th centuries. The height of the tower is 21 meters, its diameter is 9 meters. It is assumed that the height of the structure was about 45 meters, but the upper part was destroyed during an earthquake in the 15th century. There is a very narrow spiral staircase inside the tower, using which you can climb to the observation deck. It offers a wonderful view of the mountains and the ancient settlement.
