Deputy Head of State Tax Service detained on suspicion of corruption
Deputy Chairman of the State Tax Service of Kyrgyzstan Dubanaev Adilet Sabyrbekovich was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center within the criminal case initiated on the fact of corruption in procurement under the World Bank project «Modernization of Tax Administration and Statistical System». The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported.
The investigators established that during the implementation of the project, officials of the State Tax Service purchased goods and services for $4,878,894, while the cost of certain items of computer equipment, network equipment and services was inflated hundreds of times.
For example, a regular extension cord with connectors was purchased for $421 (37,000 soms), a connector that costs no more than 20 soms was purchased for $11 dollars (960 soms), an office chair worth about 3,500 soms — for $207 dollars (18,000 soms).
The SCNS added that funds allocated by international donors for the development of the republic’s industries has been stolen by government officials for a long time, and projects were not implemented properly.
The SCNS is carrying out appropriate investigative and operational activities aimed at identifying other officials and interested parties involved in the corruption scheme.
