New head coach of national football team appointed in Kyrgyzstan

Russian specialist Maxim Lisitsyn was appointed head coach of the national football team of Kyrgyzstan. The Kyrgyz Football Union (KFU) reported on social media.

Maxim Lisitsyn will train the team for the third round of qualifying games for the 2026 World Cup.

He started working in the Kyrgyz Republic four years ago. In 2022, under the leadership of Maxim Lisitsyn, the country’s youth team (U20) reached the final stage of the Asian Cup. He also headed the Olympic team of Kyrgyzstan (U23).

After the candidacy of Maxim Lisitsyn was approved, KFU President Kamchybek Tashiev met with the new coach. He wished the head coach success in his work and expressed hope that under his leadership the team will achieve the set goals.

As noted, the agreement between the Kyrgyz Football Union and the coach is signed for one year, until the completion of the third qualifying round for the World Cup.

Stefan Tarkovic’s contract with KFU was signed until June 30, 2024. The management of the Union, after thorough internal consultations, decided to terminate cooperation after the expiration of the agreement. Together with the head coach, the entire coaching staff leaves the national team.
