President establishes annual Meikin award in field of media and journalism
President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed a decree «On the establishment of the annual presidential award Meikin in the field of media and journalism». The press service of the head of state reported.
As noted, the annual award was established to «encourage creativity and recognition of achievements in the field of media and journalism, raising the prestige of the profession and stimulating creative activity of journalists».
It is planned to approve the composition of the commission for selecting candidates and awarding the prize, which should include «independent media experts,» within three months.
A total of 10 competitive nominations have been set, which cover various spheres of «socio-economic and socio-political life of the country».
It is noted that the total amount of the prize fund is 10 million soms. Each winner in 10 nominations will be awarded 1 million soms. The award will be financed from the President’s fund.
It is expected that the President will present Meikin award for the first time this year on the eve of Journalism Day, November 7.
