Private vehicles in Bishkek to be allowed in dedicated lanes at night, weekends

New operating rules for dedicated public transport lanes have been approved in Bishkek. The decision was made during a meeting of the road operations headquarters chaired by Deputy Mayor Ramiz Aliev, the municipality’s press service reported.

New schedule and traffic control

Under the changes, private cars will be prohibited from using dedicated lanes on weekdays from 8 a. m. to 8 p. m.

At night, from 8 p. m. to 8 a. m., as well as on Saturdays and Sundays, private vehicles will be fully allowed to use the dedicated lanes.

The new rules will take effect after road signs are installed and traffic management schemes are changed. The municipality also plans to strengthen enforcement and conduct regular raids to monitor compliance.

Road and sidewalk repairs

The meeting participants also reviewed interim results of roadwork. As of September 4, 2026, repairs had begun on 151 streets. Work is underway at 125 sites, while sidewalks are being laid or reconstructed at 26 others. Work has been fully completed on 84 streets.

Particular attention was paid to infrastructure near educational institutions. Relevant services were instructed to speed up the renewal of pedestrian crossing markings near schools. In addition, six dedicated right-turn lanes will be arranged in the capital by the end of 2026, bringing the total number to ten.

  • Dedicated public transport lanes have been actively introduced in Bishkek to increase the speed of buses and trolleybuses and reduce congestion during peak hours.
  • Right-turn lanes are being made by Bishkek City Hall at the busiest intersections to ease traffic on main lanes and increase the capacity of the city’s road network.
