Kazakhstan to increase rail freight tariff by 16 percent
Kazakhstan will increase tariff on rail freight transportation by 16 percent from March 7, 2025. Kazakhstan Temir Zholy company reported.
The increase will affect not only export deliveries, but also transit ones, which is of great importance for Kyrgyzstan.
Experts point out that the tariff hike will significantly impact the cost of goods imported into Kyrgyzstan from Russia — for example, fuel and lubricants, a strategically important component in the country’s economy. Kyrgyzstan imports 90 percent of its fuel and lubricants from Russia. These goods pass in transit through Kazakhstan.
The rising cost of transit and the strengthening of the Russian ruble could drive up prices for fuel and other goods in Kyrgyzstan’s domestic market.
