Kyrgyzstan could postpone elections to Parliament due to coronavirus

Elections to the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, scheduled for October 2020, could be postponed due to coronavirus. The Speaker of the Parliament, Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, told.

He noted that everything will depend on the epidemiological situation in the republic by the fall.

According to the head of the Parliament, holding of any mass events, including elections, directly depends on the epidemiological situation in the country.

«The state of emergency is stipulated in the Constitution. Parliamentary elections cannot be held during it. If the situation worsens in the fall and we have to introduce the state of emergency, the elections could be postponed. We all need to observe sanitary standards and fight the coronavirus in order to defeat it as soon as possible,» Dastanbek Dzhumabekov said.

Recall, elections to the Parliament of the 7th convocation are scheduled for October 4, 2020 in Kyrgyzstan.
