European Immunization Week starts in Kyrgyzstan

The European Immunization Week (EIW 2020) has started in Kyrgyzstan, which is held annually on the initiative of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization. The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reports.

According to the ministry, the goal of the EIW is to increase vaccination coverage, informing parents and guardians, healthcare workers about the importance of immunization. «In the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, planned preventive vaccinations have been temporarily suspended until the epidemic situation stabilizes, with the exception of vaccination of contact persons against measles and rubella and vaccination of newborns, which continues at obstetric organizations,» the ministry said.

Mobile immunization teams work during the EIW. Citizens from epidemiologically disadvantaged areas are vaccinated against measles and rubella. In addition, planned vaccination of children in areas with low vaccination coverage is carried out.
